The AAA gaming space can often lack innovation, so people usually turn to small indie studios for something fresh. Whether it’s for unique gameplay design, beautiful aesthetics or satisfying combat, these 15 overlooked indie games stood out to me. This is my top 15 list of underrated, hidden indie gems for PC that I enjoy more than any Ubisoft, Activision or EA game.

Whether it’s a classic JRPG like Crosscode, murder mystery Paradise Killer, psychological horror Yuppie Psycho, or cozy RPG Phoenotopia Awakening, I hope that at least one of my handpicked indie game recommendations from this top 15 list piques your interest.

  3. Just wow. This rain in in which the world.. is.. is. There's so much of uhh TREMENDOUSLY challenges of the impact. With the IMPACT of the world in which this is.. this, this, I think this fundamentally says a lot about society.

  5. Edit: I really want to like Hollow Knight, it’s definitely me and not the game, so if anyone has suggestions or tips on something I’m missing, I’m all ears.

So, I really like metroidvania games, but… I didn’t like hollow knight either. Please don’t kill me. I’m not a fan of how it just puts you in the game and doesn’t give you a clear objective. There isn’t an emotional Ori style intro that makes you invested in the world and characters. Or any story at all at the beginning. It doesn’t really give you any reason to do anything. It’s just confusing and makes me wonder wtf is going on. Also, I absolutely hate when I get lost in a game. And my hollow knight experience was 90% being lost, getting stuck, then dying and ending up respawning miles away from where I was, and then rage quitting. I loved the visuals, and my goodness the music is incredible, but I just can’t do it. I’m sorry. Every now and again I pick it back up thinking I’ll finally figure it out and fall in love, but it hasn’t happened yet. I freaking love the Ori franchise, and I love Celeste. Both have some back tracking, but it isn’t hard to figure out what you’re supposed to do. My adhd brain likes it that way.

  6. Just wow. This rain in in which the world.. is.. is. There's so much of uhh TREMENDOUSLY challenges, of the impact. With the IMPACT of this world in which this is.. this, this, I think this fundamentally says a lot about society.

  7. Ugh why is there a goat with a female human body? That's gross. I don't like games with anthropomorphic animals.
    (Goes back to playing undertale)

  8. I love troubleshooter abandoned children, the game has so much content is criminal how little it cost, it is a Xcom kind of strategy game but is amazing.

  9. That's cool and all but what's the game in the background?

  10. Just wow. This rain in in which the world.. is.. is. There's so much of uhh TREMENDOUSLY challenges of the impact. With the IMPACT of the world in which this is.. this, this, I think this fundamentally says a lot about society.

  11. the fact that the only 2 games in this list I ever heard about are Rain World and Yuppie Psycho is insane, this was very useful for finding some new stuff to try, tyvm!

  12. i dont think its that unpopular but your turn to die is really good and though its more popular (however it doesnt have too many steam reviews, at 1000, bc its actually free outside of steam the steam version just has some extra content) it is made entirely by one guy, i honesly love the game its my fav game as of rn, the only downside is it still in development, but most of it has been released

  13. i love rainworld, the game is amazing, but then when you come to the end its just a 30 min trip slugging. i like slugging

  14. rainworld is not really underrated… it been 6 year since release…

  15. Just wow. This rain in in which the world.. is.. is. There's so much of uhh TREMENDOUSLY challenges of the impact. With the IMPACT of the world in which this is.. this, this, I think this fundamentally says a lot about society.

  16. if u want some bartending play vallhalla, bartender game, u would like it

  17. you a real one for saying hollow knight is bad out loud

  18. As something of a boomer-shooter aficionado, Prodeus resonated with me.

You should try Turbo Overkill, if you haven't.

  19. What about haak. Its really good. trust me , try it and see what you think

  20. What about haak. Its really good. trust me , try it and see what you think

  21. looks at title and then at the thumbnail of the video and see a anthro goat with big fat anime tiddies "you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention…"

also, you should try Deep Rock Galactic. if you haven't already.

  23. pixel art, pixel art, pixel art, the originality is incredible

  24. didnt know u would mention my favorite BEST GAME EVER i've ever played Mo: Astray, its so sad theres no games like Mo: Astray i would play Mo: Astray 2 and Mo: Astray 3 and etc but sadly theres no new games like these

  25. Fun fact prodeus is on a heavily modified doom 1/2 engine

  26. Hey man, thank you for introducting me to Paradise Killer, I dont even remember when I first watched this video, but it appeared again on my youtube homepage and nowadays I have 100% completion it it, so thank you

  27. Rain world looked so great that almost tried to buy a pc just to play it, then the Xbox version was announced and I felt a bit stupid, until I played the game. It’s great, I bought the dlc twenty minutes after starting the game. The physics are cool, the game is stressful and relaxing, the art looks beautiful, and the gameplay makes you feel awesome once you get good at it. Little bit buggy, but that’s okay.

  28. cept the image for the video has a furry in it so NOPE.

  29. Just wow. This rain in in which the world.. is.. is. There’s so much of uhh TREMENDOUSLY challenges, of the impact. With the IMPACT of the world in which this is.. this, this, I think this fundamentally says a lot about society.

There I fucking said it now where’s the video?

  30. im surprised phoenotopia is here. that game really underrated

  31. where is PZ? u only took the worst indie games

  32. Just wow. This rain in which the world .. is.. is. There's so much of uhh TREMENDOUSLY challenges, of the impact. With the IMPAAHCT of the world in which this is.. this, this I think this fundamentally says a lot about society.

  34. I think people are sleeping on "tales of the neon see" really underrated indie game imo

  35. I hate to be the one telling you this buuuuut: Stranger Things is an 80s Show, not 90s, you can tell by the great music.

  36. can you make a separate video of games like yuppie psycho

  37. Prodeus looks more like Build engine games rather than Doom, looks super fun. love those fast paced shooter games. you can't really get the same feel as they had back then. even the Neo-Doom games (doom 2016 and the other one) don't have the same feel.

I say Build engine since the look and mechanics of Prodeus seem more in line with duke nukem and blood, rather than the distinctive way the levels were built in the idTech engine. what with all the jumping and that

  38. I know everything is subjective opinion, but I say Prodeus does that genre of shooter far better than the new "Doom" games. to me doom 2016 feels so slow in comparison to retro shooters that prodeus recreates very well. the new doom games to me feel like call of duty clone with a few more mechanics. nothing against the game for that, but that's pretty much all shooters these days, and they work and make money so why wouldn't they take the safe route by just doing that? ironic that games used to copy doom way back when, and now doom is copying other games

  39. Really well put together video, and very solid recommendations

  40. Something I've realized is that I don't really want innovation 90% of the time. Im a hardcore guy who plays on casual time, so I like to be able to have a sense of familiarity to what im playing. Lately I've been playing older RPGs on gog and its been fun to enjoy games that don't try to reinvent the wheel. I like it when i load up a new game and it feels like someone's interpretation of dungeons and dragons, or it uses typical fantasy elements. To me, I love that aesthetic.

  41. As an avid yuppie psycho fan, I'm happy the game is getting the attention it deserves
That game slaps, I love me some rpg horror games, especially if they're really underrated, like OFF, Yumme Nikki, and Lisa the painful
I haven't actually beat Yuppie Psycho to the end cause I have to really think to get through these kinds of games but still 10/10

  42. 20:00 THANK YOU, for real I though that I'm the only human who hated that shit.

  43. literally discovered your channel as it was recommended on my home page. Made it to 0:54 and you already had 3 strikes and you're out I will never visit your channel or your videos again… What are the strikes for you ask? For sudden loud noises made into the microphone for no reason. It's not funny, it's bloody annoying, headache inducing, I hate everyone who does it and I wish this stopped. So I'm letting YouTubers guilty of this bullshit know. There are many people who will never watch YouTubers that suddenly speak loudly to the microphone. Fuck you
